For example, we should make sure of the orientalist's authenticity, objectivity and whether or not he or she has some specific purposes. No doubts , among them there are some whose aim is more than just writing about the history of people. We have come across some orientalists who wrote about the history of Islam who tried to present an unpleasant picture about Islam and Muslims. Henry Lamans, a Belgian priest is an example of those whose works of Islamic history contains lots of untrue accounts and illogical ideas. It is worth noticing here that he was one of those who contributed to the Islamic Encyclopedia, and a large number of researchers and students refer to his ideas. This essay is intended to analyze and criticize his views especially about Islam. عرصه شرق شناسى و شرق شناسان، عرصه اى گسترده است و ابعاد گوناگون و متعدد دارد. بررسى میزان بى طرفى شرق شناسان و میزان اعتبار دیدگاه هاى آن ها، و نیز دسته بندى آن ها از این نظر، یکى از این ابعاد است. بى شک گروهى از آنان نسبت به اسلام دیدگاه منفى و مغرضانه دارند، و از این نظر، بررسى هاى آن ها همواره آمیخته با غرض ورزى و حق کشى و وارونه سازى نسبت به اسلام است. یکى از سرشناسان این گروه، هنرى لامنس، کشیش بلژیکى است. دیدگاه او در تاریخ اسلام بسیار مغرضانه و دور از منطق و روش علمى است. از سوى دیگر، او از نویسندگان دایرة المعارف الاسلامیه است و آثار و نظریاتش، بسیار مطرح مى باشد. از این رو، در این مقاله دیدگاه تاریخى وى مورد نقد و بررسى قرار مى گیرد.
