However, the consequences of encountering the West—especially orientalist narratives—have hindered the emergence of this self-awareness and obstructed an independent engagement with our contemporary history. Moreover, the application of Western humanities in analyzing Iranian issues has confronted us not only with theoretical and normative challenges, but also with an identity challenge. This article, employing the method of Critical Discourse Analysis, seeks to propose a “critical research strategy” that can deconstruct the dominant Western discourse in the humanities and enable the reconstruction of an Iranian‑Islamic identity. The findings of this study indicate that establishing an independent field of “Studies of Contemporary Iranian History and Thought,” grounded in a critical and interdisciplinary approach, is a necessary solution for overcoming the identity challenge and escaping the dominance of Western humanities discourse. آگاهی از تاریخ معاصر ایران نقشی اساسی در شکل‌گیری هویت ملی ایرانیان دارد و می‌تواند زمینه‌ساز خودفهمی تاریخی و تقویت اراده جمعی باشد. با این حال، پیامدهای ناشی از مواجهه با غرب، به‌ویژه نفوذ روایت‌های شرق‌شناسانه و تصویرسازی‌های سلطه‌محور، مانع از تکوین این خودآگاهی و توجه استقلالی به تجربه تاریخی ایرانیان شده است. از سوی دیگر، اتکای گسترده به علوم انسانی غربی در تحلیل مسائل ایران، علاوه بر ایجاد چالش‌های نظری و هنجاری، ما را با بحران هویتی عمیق‌تری نیز مواجه کرده است. این مقاله با بهره‌گیری از روش تحلیل گفتمان انتقادی، در پی ارائه یک «راهبرد پژوهشی انتقادی» است که بتواند به شالوده‌شکنی گفتمان مسلط غربی در علوم انسانی کمک کرده و زمینه بازسازی هویت ایرانی–اسلامی را فراهم آورد. یافته‌ها نشان می‌دهد که شکل‌گیری حوزه‌ای مستقل با عنوان «مطالعات تاریخ و اندیشه معاصر ایران» و توسعه رویکردی میان‌رشته‌ای و انتقادی، شرط لازم برای عبور از چالش هویتی و رهایی از سلطه گفتمان علوم انسانی غربی است.
