abstract = {Foreign itineraries were often written by political officials and missionaries whose main concern was pursuing their special interests, political-religious thoughts, and purposes and those of their countries. This is reflected in their reports about the social conditions of the Islamic community in the previous centuries, particularly Iranian community. English orientalists are among those who embarked on writing such itineraries. Partiality, fanaticism and conveying the impression that the English have control over the Islamic world are the distinctive features of their works.
This research seeks to answer the question as to what picture English orientalists present in their itineraries of the Islamic community, particularly Iran in Qajar period. In addition to proving the mentioned view about foreign itineraries, the research findings show that, these orientalists do not have true understanding of the religious and Islamic-Iranian community, and the colonial- exploitative vision of the English caused them to present in their itineraries a kind of report in which they regard the culture of our country and community in the mentioned era with contempt and in different aspects and this, in fact, is contrary to historical realities. These itineraries are insulting to Islamic communities which are introduced as being decologue, archaic, superstitious, ignorant, extremist, double spatial, untruthful, using flattery, and in brief, woebegone and regressive in morality, rites and religious beliefs. Nevertheless, the partial-superficial look as well as, the generalization about the vileness in Iranian communities call into question their impartiality and fairness. Unlike the Europeans, who notice the beauties and attractiveness of Islam world, English orientalists propogate according to a one-sided view in this regard and refuse to mention the positive aspects of the life and culture in Iran.

abstract_fa ={سفرنامه های خارجی غالباً توسط مأموران سیاسی و مبلغان مذهبی مسیحی تدوین گردیده که البته منافع، اندیشه ها و مقاصد سیاسی ـ مذهبی خاص خود و دولت های متبوعشان را در تصویربرداری از شرایط اجتماعی جامعه‌ی اسلامی و در رأس آن جامعه‌ی ایرانی در سده های اخیر دخالت داده اند. مستشرقان انگلیسی از این جمله اند که جانب دارانه، همراه با تعصب، و توجیه استیلای خود بر جهان اسلام، به نگارش سفرنامه هایی در این خصوص مبادرت ورزیده اند.      
	این پژوهش درصدد پاسخ به این سؤال اساسی است که مستشرقان انگلیسی چه تصویری از جامعه‌ی اسلامی و در رأس آن، ایران عصر قاجار در سفرنامه هایشان ارائه کرده اند؟ یافته های پژوهش ضمن اثبات فرضیه‌ی مطرح شده، بیانگر این واقعیت است که نداشتن شناخت واقعی از مذهب و اجتماع اسلامی ـ ایرانی از یک سو، و نیز بینش استعماری ـ استثماری انگلیسی ها از دیگر سو، موجب گردیده آنان گزارشی همراه با تحقیر نسبت به فرهنگ و اجتماع میهنمان در این دوره و در ابعاد گوناگون در منابع سفرنامه هایشان انعکاس دهند که البته با واقعیات تاریخی مغایر است. جوامع اسلامی به شکلی توهین آمیز، منحط، کهنه، خرافاتی، جاهل، اهل افراط و تفریط، دو فضایی، دروغگو، متملق و در یک عبارت، فلاکت زده و عقب مانده در اخلاقیات، آداب و رسوم، و اعتقادات مذهبی معرفی گردیده اند. در این میان، نگاه بخشی ـ سطحی و در عین حال، تعمیم یک رذیلت اخلاقی به کل جامعه‌ی ایرانی نیز از نکاتی است که نگاه بی طرفانه و منصفانه‌ی آنان را با تردید جدی مواجه می سازد. مستشرقان انگلیس برخلاف دیگر اروپاییان، که به زیبایی ها و جذابیت های دنیای اسلام نیز توجه نشان داده اند، غالباً نگاه یک سویه را در این زمینه تبلیغ کرده و از ذکر وجوه مثبت زندگی و فرهنگ مردم آن استنکاف ورزیده اند.},
