One of her most prominent works is " Meccan Trade and the Rise of Islam." Using the descriptive-analytic method, this study seeks to investigate the role of Crone's skeptical approach in shaping her views and the strengths and weaknesses of this book. The research findings show that the views of Crone are formed solely based on her skeptical attitude towards Islamic sources. She considers Islamic sources on the early history of Islam as lacking in historical validity and regards that historical knowledge of this period is possible only through material evidence and non-Islamic historical texts. The methodology of Crone has been influenced by the origin of her philosophy of history, and postmodernism has had a great impact on her. Presenting a critique of Crone’s ideas and rejecting her reasons for the incredibility of Islamic resources, the paper explains the problem of relying solely on material evidence and non-Islamic texts and makes clear that they are only complementary to Islamic sources. پاتریشیا کرون، پژوهشگر دانمارکی قرن بیست و یکم، از سران جریان شکاکیت در سیره پژوهی غرب از برجسته ترین آثار شکاکانه اش کتاب «تجارت مکه و ظهور اسلام» است. این پژوهش بر آن است تا با روش توصیفی ـ تحلیلی بر مبنای این کتاب، نقش رویکرد شکاکانه‌ی کرون در شکل گیری دیدگاه های وی و نقاط قوت و ضعف آن را بررسی نماید. دستاورد تحقیق نشان می دهد دیدگاه های کرون صرفاً به سبب نگاه شکاکانه اش به منابع اسلامی بوده است. وی منابع اسلامی مرتبط با تاریخ صدر اسلام را فاقد اعتبار تاریخی دانسته و شناخت تاریخی از این دوره را تنها از طریق شواهد مادی و متون تاریخی غیر اسلامی امکان پذیر دانسته است. روش شناسی کرون از خاستگاه فلسفۀ تاریخ وی متأثر بوده و پست مدرنیسم بر وی تأثیر فراوان داشته است. در نقد دیدگاه کرون، ضمن رد دلایل وی مبنی بر عدم وثاقت منابع اسلامی، مشکلات اتکای صرف بر شواهد مادی و متون غیر اسلامی بیان شده و روشن گردیده که آنها تنها مکمل منابع اسلامی اند. https://tarikh.nashriyat.ir/sites/tarikh.nashriyat.ir/files/article-files/3_13.pdf
