abstract = {Martin Lings, born in 1909 in England, was one of the few orientalists to convert from Christianity to Islam and to work on Islamic issues. One of them is the book "Muhammad based on the oldest sources". Although in this book he presents a relatively comprehensive account of the life of the Prophet Khatamah, his method of historiography does not meet the criteria of historical research. This study, by using the method of historical analysis, the author's method of historiography is examined by a case study of "the issue of Aboutaleb faith" in order to raise the book's shortcomings in this regard and provide a clearer picture of the topic of discussion to the audience. Some problems of Martin Lings' historiography are choice without presentation of logic, disregard for all propositions and evidence, imposition of presuppositions on history, and disregard for all sources that result in the introduction of unbelieving figures from Abu Talib. While examining all the sources, propositions, and pieces of evidence, it reveals many pieces of evidence and proof about Abu Talib's faith.},

abstract_fa ={مارتین لینگز، متولد 1909م در انگلستان، از معدود خاورپژوهانی است که از مسیحیت به اسلام تغییر آیین داده و آثاری در حوزه‌ی مسائل اسلامی پدید آورده است. یکی از آنها کتابی است با عنوان «محمد بر پایه‌ی کهن ترین منابع». گرچه وی در این کتاب گزارشی نسبتاً جامع از زندگی پیامبر خاتم(ص) ارائه داده، اما روش تاریخ نگاری وی، با معیارهای پژوهش تاریخی منطبق نیست. در این مقاله، با استفاده از روش تحلیل تاریخی، روش تاریخ نگاری مؤلف با بررسی موردی «مسئله ایمان ابوطالب(ص)» بررسی شده تا اشکالات کتاب در این زمینه مطرح شود و تصویر شفاف تری از موضوع بحث به مخاطبان ارائه گردد.
گزینش بدون ارائه‌ی منطق، بی توجهی به تمامی گزاره ها و شواهد، تحمیل پیش فرض ها بر تاریخ و بی توجهی به تمامی منابع، از جمله اشکالات روشی بر تاریخ نگاری مارتین لینگز است که نتیجه‌ی آن معرفی چهره ای بی ایمان از حضرت ابوطالب(ص) است. درحالی که بررسی تمامی منابع، گزاره ها و شواهد، ادله و شواهد بسیاری را مبنی بر ایمان ابوطالب(ص) آشکار می کند.},
