Abstract:
The category of "time" is one of the main elements of history - with any definition. The concept of time in history, and more precisely, "historical time", has a fundamental difference with the common concept of time in philosophy and physics. One of the characteristics of historical time is its connection with the category of "timeline" and this concept is in turn connected with another concept called "important events". "Timeline", which has an important position in information nowadays, describes a period of time to regularly present or represent graphically or non-graphically the most important events of that period. Due to the connection between history and human guidance, the Qur'an has a noticeable attention to history - of course, with its own special type of expression -; and an examples of this attention is highlighting the time sequence of events and presenting different models for timeline. Reviewing various Quranic expressions in this field, this article tries to represent one of timelines considered by the Holy Quran by studying the applications of "edh"(إذ) and "va edh"(و إذ) in it. This study shows that "edh" and "va edh" meaning a period of time - which belongs to the omitted verb "ozkor" (اذکر) or "ozkoru" (اذکروا) - forms a timeline based on some important events of the lives of nine prophets (Ibrahim, Lot, Moses, Soleiman, Ilyas, Yunus, Yusuf, Jesus and Muhammad), two divine personalities (Luqman and Maryam) and one group (Ashab-i Kahf).
